You want to book a cruise, but you’re afraid that cruising alone will make you feel out of place. What’s a solo traveler to do? Have no fear — here are some of the best cruises you can take as a single person.

As a single, you know how hard it can be to do most things when the world is so couple-centric; but traveling always seems harder because you don’t have the comfort of being at home or knowing anyone. Norwegian Cruise Line has gone out of its way to help singles feel included and has been voted Porthole magazine’s best cruise line for solo travelers five years in a row. The line even give singles incentives like booking at a reduced rate with their own stateroom. Norwegian’s blog has a great article about some of the best singles cruises they offer.

Cruise Critic’s Australian editors voted Holland America the best line for singles for their single-oriented activities. Holland hosts a Solo Travelers Party where singles can meet and interact with each other, and they also have activities where you don’t need a partner. The Solo Travelers Party is planned for the beginning of the cruise so you can spend more time with someone if you hit it off. With over 40 activities for singles to participate in, from exercise to art, there are endless chances to have fun on your own or with someone new.

Crystal Cruises has also gone out of its way to accommodate singles by offering a generous discount to solo travelers. The Crystal Serenity was voted the number one best cruise for singles by U.S. News & World Report for offering single-friendly activities like spas, casinos and driving ranges. As an added bonus, hosts serve as dancing or dining partners.

Silversea Cruises

Silversea offers solo travelers reduced supplement fees that include gratuities, complementary beverages and shore-side events and an in-suite refrigerator. There’s also a mixer the first night aboard. In 2019, Silversea introduced a promotion for solo travelers for Valentine’s Day — a zero supplement fee for solo cruisers traveling between February 14 and February 28 to 14 different destinations in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

A single stateroom with a gorgeous view called The Super Studio and no single supplement fee? Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas gives solo travelers this opportunity. Solo travelers also get an extra point for each night booked with the Crown and Anchor Society Rewards program.

Cunard Line

Cunard showed its dedication to singles by removing part of the casino to make more single rooms. In addition, there are special activities for singles on shore, a welcome reception on embarkation day and cookies and coffee to greet you each morning at sea. Like most of the other lines, they also have staff members to serve as a dance or dining partner at any on-board balls.
